Giving High School Students the Tools They Need to Become Their Best Selves
For High School students, often studying and learning about the value of the content of one's character takes backstage to academics, or it is taught narrowly with an anti-bullying program.
What if we could change this? Would it make a difference? The answer to both those questions is, "Yes, we can, and yes, it will."
U Can Be Heroes is the most nourishing and enlighting program available. By engaging young adults' hearts and minds with a revolutionary approach to matters of character, we awaken them to discover and to cultivate their best selves. By doing so, young adults are empowered to create alignment, wholeness and harmony for themselves and others.
We can apply the ready-made laws of nature present in the body to other spheres. When we extend the functions of the body to the behavioral sphere, we discover a path to behavioral, relationship and societal wholeness.
MOVING
BEYOND BEHAVIORS
For high school students, the materials engage students on the value and choice of behaviors based on the common denominators they share with body parts. In this way, high school students participate in the process of discovery.
Beyond the discovery, throughout the program, students deepen their understanding of the relationship of behaviors to attitudes and character qualities. Finally, and of particular importance for older students, these students explore the sphere of the system by looking at parts to whole systems.

Non-fiction Books
One per grade
Separate books for each of the grades help students to learn about the many essential qualities that are necessary for wholeness and harmony. The high school books advance beyond the nine behaviors taught in the younger grades to include attitude, character traits, and societal characteristics.

Constitution of an Individual and Society
2 Per Grade
Just like our United States Constitution established our laws and the rights of the citizens so that we might have a better chance to live in peace together, the natural constitution of our body offers us a beautiful blueprint that reveals how each of us has within ourselves the qualities for wholeness. Students use these constitutions throughout the program as guides for their class discussions as well as for written assignments.

An easy-to-remember acronym: altrusime, spelled with an e, according to its original french spelling.
And, four shared needs: Life, liberty, and Happiness for all.

Nine behaviors, along with their partner attitude and character traits (24 qualities in total) and four shared needs that share functions in common with particular body parts.

One non-fiction per high school grade, two constitutions (a constitution of the whole individual and a constitution of a whole society) for writing assignments and class activities.
How it works
Four simple, easy-to-follow steps.

1
Read. Read one of the chapters from one of the designated non-fiction books.

Discuss. Next, relate the chapter to one or more of the behaviors from the individual and societal constitutions.
STEP
3
Writing/drawing activity. Follow up the class discussion with a related writing or group activity using the book concept and its partner constitution concept.
STEP
4
Share. Give students an opportunity to share their individual or group learning.
